چکیده

Abstract Cowpea ( Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) is a multipurpose crop widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Characterizing cowpea phenotypes germplasm collections crucial step to ensure future breeding efforts species. In this study, we estimated variance components calculated genetic parameters for eight traits 292 accessions from University of California Riverside mini‐core collection, along with three lines released by USDA, seven cultivars. Broad‐sense heritability H 2 ) ranged .21 .83 all evaluated Year 1, .16 100 during 2. Genotype × year correlations .45 .99, illustrating consistency phenotypic performance some traits. Positive trait were plant height days flowering, biomass at flowering (R1), pod maturity (R6). Biomass R1 R6 highly positively correlated. The USDA line US‐1137 showed high production can be used as forage cover crop, whereas US‐1136, US 1138, cultivar Iron Clay superior dual‐purpose (grain and/or fodder). Several outperformed cultivars represent valuable resources that contribute improvement. Moreover, these results multiyear multienvironment studies are needed reliable select improved agronomic This study will provide breeders geneticists data start new efforts, opportunities gene discovery key phenological

Genetic Diversity and Population Structure of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp)

The genetic diversity of cowpea was analyzed, and the population structure was estimated in a diverse set of 768 cultivated cowpea genotypes from the USDA GRIN cowpea collection, originally collected from 56 countries. Genotyping by sequencing was used to discover single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in cowpea and the identified SNP alleles were used to estimate the level of genetic diversity, ...

Diversity in 113 cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L) Walp] accessions assessed with 458 SNP markers

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers were used in characterization of 113 cowpea accessions comprising of 108 from Ghana and 5 from abroad. Leaf tissues from plants cultivated at the University of Ghana were genotyped at KBioscience in the United Kingdom. Data was generated for 477 SNPs, out of which 458 revealed polymorphism. The results were used to analyze genetic dissimilarity among...

Recent advances in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...
